WHY YOU NEED TO INVEST IN YOURSELF
Investing in yourself has never been more important. Yet whilst I love attending crafty workshops to give our creativity a boost, I have started to attend more seminars, conferences and coaching. And you know what? It’s been awesome. However, investing in yourself doesn’t always have to be work related. I’ve also been investing more effort towards our health, education and my spare time. If you’re looking to invest in something that will result in a great return, start with yourself. In fact, it’ll probably be the best thing you do! Here’s why:
INVEST IN YOUR CREATIVITY
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while now, then you’ll know how much I value creativity – especially what you can do to feel more creative and how it can help you overcome roadblocks. For me? It clears my mind and makes me more present. And the best news is that it doesn’t matter if you’re an accountant, a student, an artist or a grandma, investing in your creativity is really easy. All you need to do is find a creative outlet that suits you. For me, it’s painting and gardening. For you, it could be baking, pottery or sewing. The beautiful thing about investing in your creativity is that you’ll feel super refreshed and re-engergised!
INVEST IN YOUR WORK
Amen! As a solo business owner, I can get quite lonely working from home and with no one to pow wow with on the regular, I have started attending more work related seminars, conferences and workshops. The benefits of investing in my work has seen me skill up, feel more confident in my business decisions and network with likeminded people. It’s a win win investment!
INVEST IN YOUR HEALTH
Instead having the latest trends compete for space in my wardrobe, I’ve chosen to invest in my health by doing F45 and pilates. I ride everywhere I can (Jason recently fixed my bicycle and I am so happy!), I eat cleanly and organic, and when I travel I use the Kayla Itsines Sweat app as I find hotel gym’s so, so boring and demotivating. I also get regular sports massages! Not only does investing in my health make me feel better, it also gives me the much needed energy throughout the day.
INVEST IN YOUR EDUCATION
It doesn’t matter what stage of work and life you’re in, you should never stop learning. I go to workshops about photography and the solar system. I am currently reading up on landscaping as we’re building a house and I want to know as much as I can about gardening with natives. I recently bought acrylic paints after being inspired by my great uncle’s art and have been watching YouTube videos on how to paint with these. I am building a new website for Mister Weekend (stay tuned!) on Squarespace and have taken an online course to help me do this. Cultivating your skillset is so important because this sort of investment will stimulate your mental wellbeing, as well as make you more interesting around the dinner table!
INVEST IN YOUR SPARE TIME
I am a huge fan of making the most of my spare time. Whilst I love spending a lazy afternoon on the couch binging on Netflix (confession – I have watched Stranger Things three times now), I think investing in your spare time is something we don’t do enough. For me, investing in my spare time is about going camping for a couple of nights at Double Island Point or hiking to the top of Mount Pamona. It’s also not looking at my phone whilst relaxing at home in the evenings and instead, cooking a really delicious dinner undistracted. For you, it could be cycling to the farmers markets instead of driving. Or going on a date without your phone. Whatever it is, make sure you’re also not filling your spare time with heaps of activities. It’s ok to relax and get some down time too of course.
